Jennifer Byrne

Jennifer Byrne is Director of Biobanking with NSW Health Pathology and conjoint Professor of Molecular Oncology at the University of Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia. Jennifer was awarded First Class Honours with the University Medal for her Bachelor of Science studies in physiology and neuroscience and a PhD in cancer genetics and pathology from the University of Queensland, Australia, before undertaking postdoctoral training at the IGBMC in Strasbourg, France. She is leads the PRIMeR group (Publication and Research Integrity in Medical Research) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. She has published over 110 peer-reviewed publications, which have been cited more than 3,500 times. She has extensive experience in biobanking, from both the perspective of a researcher who has employed biospecimens throughout her research career, and through establishing, overseeing and networking cancer biobanks. Jennifer was the founding Chair of the Australian and New Zealand Children's Haematology/Oncology Group network of tumour banks, and she chairs the NSW Health Statewide Biobank Scientific Advisory Group. She is a member of the Steering Committee of Brain Cancer Biobanking Australia, and the Victoria Cancer Biobank Scientific Advisory Board. She led several Cancer Institute NSW-funded projects across all cancer biobanks in NSW, including a collaboration to adapt and implement the first biobank certification program to be introduced to Australia.
